I’ve seen this riff subdivided in a lot of ways (5/4+4/4, 9/8+9/8,...) but I think it best
to consider it in 9/4. The drum accents fall every half note, which makes it feel as fourths.
If you divide as 5/4+4/4, you cut the riff in asymmetrical pieces which messes
with the feel of the part for me, and if you divide as 9/8+9/8 you play disconnected
from the drums every other measure. If you consider it as 9/4,
you keep in sync with the drums without nonsensically cutting up the riff.

I can’t be bothered to figure out the exact timing of the drum solo that goes on here, it’s
pretty free form.

This riff could be divided in four times 4/4+7/8. I personally don’t like this, as the drums
play in 15/4.
Every second time you get to a ‘4/4’ part of the riff you’d be counting 1 eighth note
out of sync with the drums. I prefer following the pulse of the drums, this means taking
two rounds of riffs together to make 15/4. The page isn’t wide enough to write this properly
however,
so I’ll be splitting it in two times 15/8.
